kraftwerk live!
yes yes yes! even in crappy athens some bands will honour us with their presence. so, on friday i went to see kraftwerk in the open air beach volley venue at the south of the city. the venue was crap cause the space was way too big and even though the crowd was sizeable the overall effect was one of a semi-filled venue. the concert started about an hour + after it was supposed to and the first few "songs" were from the tour de france and thus mostly unknown to me and slightly irrelevant. however, when all that was over the old robots played all the hits ie the model, we are the robots, autobahn, computer world and more. All in all they played for more than 2 hours, more than a lot of the new and exciting young bands out there. It's hard to say how much of the show was preprogrammed, some of the vocals were not and there was some messing around with sounds etc but that is all irrelevant. to press the point even further, "we are the robots" was played with 4 man like robots having taken the stage in place of the band. we ate it up! robotic splendour and german mechanics, history but also fresh sounds and sights. the visuals were excellent and we can only imagine how much better it would be in a smaller closed space perhaps with screens all around. all in all the whole thing was excellent and highly recommended if you get a chance!
