I never asked but I heard you cast your lot along with the poor. But then I overheard your prayer, that you be this and nothing more than just some grateful faithful woman's favourite singing millionaire, the patron Saint of envy and the grocer of despair, working for the Yankee Dollar.

day to day

not much has been going on really, as seems to be the trend these days. i've been consuming my time playing GTA San Andreas on my ps2, which in case you're leaving on mars, is amazing. it's hard to pin it down really but the mix of care free gaming and real interest in my character's well being is just right for about an hour or so a day.

other than that, i just downloaded avid free dv for video editing and i've been trying to learn that. i've never edited anything before and to be honest i've never really tried or shown any interest. i just happen to shoot some stuff with my camera which doubles as a low quality video camera as well and wanted to mess around with something new. i'm really enjoying the process of learning something so different and exotic to me. a bit like starting this blog. i don't know, i guess i'm going through some sort of creative spell, as lame as that sounds. anyway it's fun.

irvin yalom was visiting athens for a couple of days and drew crowds well into the hundreds, or so i read. it's funny that in a country where almost nobody reads newspapers or books and most conversations revolve around the upcoming eurovision contest where out national pride is at stake, some people and things attain cult status even though most people have no idea what they are about. go ahead call me a snob and see if i care. anyway, a woman called one of the bookstores where he would be signing his books and asked if he will be performing any psychoanalysis at the book signing. no honey, that's uri fucking geller.

my psych interest group had yalom come speak for us last october (he lives in the area and is emeritus). in person, he is an amazing storyteller. he didn't have anything prepared, just answered questions from an audience of a hundred or so, and kept people thoroughly engaged for 90 minutes straight. i had no idea he's big in greece, too...

geoff: it is a good book
john: i know he's connected to stanford and apparently he's exploded internationally. i would have liked to seen him speak too but you can understand why i had to stay away from the crowds. it would have been great in a setting like you had. sigh
